4th
Yea, Anthony is back from holiday and I've now talked to him on the phone. We have decided that X-Day will be on the 14th giving us both a bit of time to finish sorting details out. I've already phoned around and found some prices for truck hire and the best deal I found was at my local Budget rental who do a business day hire of a Luton transit van for £54, I calculated that the trip was about 2 1/2 hours each way so that should be enough for me (Farnborough, Hampshire to Weston-Super-Mare, North Somerset)

13th
Got directions and map all sorted along with all the paperwork I needed for the van hire (As I have a newer style driving license, I needed to take the other part too and a utility bill from the last 3 months). Went to bed excited!!!

14th
Up bright and early to get to the rental place wll before 9am to pick up the truck, no issues there but byt the time I had done all the paper work and got back to pick up my gloves/cloth (for wrapping up fibre glass items etc.) it was already 09:25. Set off for the trip to Weston-super-Mare! Pretty much an uneventful trip but finding his house was a bit tricky - no real issue though as we saw him waving :) and arrived just after 12:30 (well we did get a bit lost!). At this point after a gloruis journey it decided to rain, it wans't anything too bad luckily and nothing got too wet. The first thing to do was to move all the boxes out and wheel out the chassis (Had back axle on and nothing else) so we wheelbarrowed it to the back of the luton van then while holidng the front we chocked the wheels onto the tail lift and went up...then it just slid into place :) with that there (went in as planned - phew!!) it was just a case of loading everything else around it. I was really impressed with all the wotk Anthony had done in labelling up and boxing things. Even the GRP / bonnet was covered in cloths so mine where next to useless. This made the whole event real quick (and a quick thanks to Anthony's granddad, for a real nice cup of tea). There was an engine and gearbox there as well but as it had been left outside under some trees since bought (about 6 years ago) I decided against taking those and to source my own. Also I know it's a damn heavy thing to move and time was not on our side as I had to get the van back by 5pm. So we set off for home having another really boring journey (at least the van still drove quite well even up hill!) and we reached home ready to load it back into my garage at about 4pm.

My daughter Poppy and Dad/helper!

Everything was thrown into the back garden / garage and the van returned with 5 minutes to spare! However I then had to spend the evening sorting through everything trying to work out what to keep down and what to put up in the loft out of the way.

16th
After catching up with a bit of work I decided to explore the car again and try and remember all the little things to do.

Oh yes standard can't wait shot!

The back axle was in place and all looked ok, however I decided to take it off and give it another good derusting (as it had started to show a bit of rust again) and repaint it in green (To go with the GRP which was in BRG colour)

As usual the minute I get in it the kids want in too!

18th-31st
Spent most this time derusting other components and paiting them up, a lot of the basic midl steel parts that RHE had supplied had even become rusted so I wanted to try and get these protected asap. Also I was working through what else I needed to complete the project, I'd contact Anthony again about a couple of bits (any paper work for donor to try and avoid Q reg, and also keys for the ignition), again Anthony was ever so helpful and has found everything and is forwarding it to me!

I've worked out that all I need now is:

  • Engine / gearbox
  • Font right (Offside) hub
  • Pedals (not sure where thay got too!)
  • Better seats (No wy am I using the RH ones provided!!)

Enough talk for now, see you next month!
